USA President Trump says "It certainly looks" like Jamal Khashoggi is dead, and that USA is waiting for results of investigations

President Donald Trump: 'It Certainly Looks' Like Journalist Jamal Khashoggi Is Dead | NBC News, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29Pjh_Dw4r8, around 1 min, published by NBC News on 18th Oct. 2018

I have given below the transcript of the initial part of the above video clip.

Reporter question: Mr. President, do you believe Jamal Khashoggi is dead?

President Trump: It certainly looks that way to me. Its very sad. Certainly looks that way.
...
President Trump: We are waiting for some investigations and waiting for the results. And we will have them very soon. And I think we will be making a statement, a very strong statement. But we are waiting for the results of about three different investigations. We should be able to get to the bottom fairly soon.

In Shift on Khashoggi Killing, Trump Edges Closer to Acknowledging a Saudi Role, https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/18/us/politics/trump-khashoggi-dead.html, 18th Oct. 2018

The above NYT article puts forward a view that Mr. Trump changed his tone on the disappearance and, most probably, killing of Khashoggi, after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo briefed him.

The article states that in a brief interview NYT had with Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump said, "Unless the miracle of all miracles happens, I would acknowledge that he’s dead".."That’s based on everything — intelligence coming from every side."

Ravi: For me, the words of the President of the USA, the most powerful office in the world from an economy, military as well as high end industry perspective, are very important. Note that the US President gets briefed on such major matters by top diplomats and intelligence agencies of the USA. So he has access to information that may not be with even top mainstream media organizations in the USA.

With these public words of President Trump, I think we can now safely say that, in all probability, Khashoggi was killed. I think we can also say that the probability is high that he was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, and that the original statement of Saudi Arabian government that Khashoggi had left the consulate alive, is a false statement.

As President Trump has said that the investigation results will be available "fairly soon", I think we should be prepared to wait for a few days, before arriving at a firm conclusion on this, in all probability, killing of Khashoggi.

As a social media writer for over five years now, I thrive on freedom of speech in India and in many other parts of the world, but unfortunately, not all the parts of the world. I am very grateful to USA government which includes the Presidency as well as Congress, for the leadership they are showing in getting to the truth of the, in all probability, killing of Khashoggi as a way to silence his dissident writings. Hats off to USA government for the leadership they are showing in protecting freedom of speech in this horrific case.
