About an accidental discharge of a gun tucked into waistband of person, while he was in Walmart in Arizona state, USA

Note: Readers who do not like to read about gun violence may please skip reading rest of this post.

These are based on my comments on an FB post elsewhere.

Just read this: Man accidentally shoots self in groin inside Buckeye Walmart, https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/southwest-valley-breaking/2018/11/28/man-accidentally-shoots-himself-groin-inside-buckeye-walmart/2143635002/ , 28th Nov. 2018. So he will survive. That's good news.

I have never held a real gun in my life. So maybe my question is really naive. But I would presume the gun would have a safety catch which would have been on. There is no mention of that in the report!

Hard to believe that a guy was so casually carrying a loaded gun which went off accidentally in this fashion. I mean, it seems to be just way too irresponsible!

Did some browsing on it as I just wanted to know more about such scary situations. I mean, it is one thing for kids who are playing with guns to accidentally shoot them. But this Walmart incident was just too freaky and scary.

Came across this unbelievable youtube video published in Jun 2018 which seems to show a similar case unless it is a staged video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExW3lt3hxbk, 50 secs.

I think there is no safety catch coming into play in this case. Perhaps the gun does not have one or they don't use it. If the video is genuine then such guns are just too scary to have around. I mean this is 2018 and not 1940s when safety measures in some guns were supposed to be very poor.

This video examines the above which seems to be a real incident and not a staged event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu-H36C5z3c. Apparently the Glock pistol that was used did not have a safety catch mechanism! Maybe the same was the case with the Walmart incident.

Further in the Walmart incident case, the guy was carrying the loaded pistol unholstered!!! And, I repeat, that pistol did not seem to have a safety catch! .... That's just asking for trouble ... Thank God no other person got hurt due to this man's terribly bad disregard for gun safety norms.

Interesting video which shows how a good waistband type holster and good gun placement in holster and retrieval from holster pose can help prevent accidental self-injury and injury to others, when placing a hand gun/pistol in the holster or when drawing it out of the holster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGU7HbgDIvE, 5 min. 26 secs, published in Sept. 2016.
