The rise of Indian business/merchant princes and princesses to world stage
Interesting! In my youth in Bombay, I never imagined that I would see a Bombay businessman's daughter acquire such a celebrity status and have such a lavish wedding. BTW during my software professional days, I recall a visit I made to Dhirubhai Ambani (Mukesh Ambani's father) company's (Reliance) Patalganga plant for some presentation/meeting. They had Wang computers there and I was well versed with Wang Computer software.
I think this video captures the rise of the Indian merchant princes and princesses to world fame. Note that some Indian origin merchant families have made it big in business in Western countries. But they are essentially foreign business tycoons. Mukesh Ambani and his father Dhirubhai Ambani's businesses have primarily been based in India, and both of them have essentially been Bombay based business tycoons.
Another fascinating aspect of the super-rich Indian merchant princes and princesses class is that most of them are educated in top USA universities! So there is a strong USA business management and USA culture influence.
Note that even Mukesh Ambani attended Stanford business school even though he did not complete his Master's study there. He claims that what he learned in Stanford under his Professors there has helped him in his business management!
Isha Ambani studied in Yale University for U.G. degree and then seems to have done her MBA in Stanford.
Her husband Anand Piramal, who is a scion of another Indian business family, seems to have done MBA from Harvard.
So there is a strong USA link to the new generation of Indian business/merchant princes and princesses.

This interview seems to have been done in 2002, as Neeta Ambani tells Simi Garewal of her marriage to Mukesh Ambani starting with something 18 years back in 1984. Note that the videos have been published in youtube in 2012.
The second video shows Mukesh and Neeta Ambani with then USA President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton in the White House in 2000 at a millennium event to which they were invited along with some other big shots. Hmm. So the Ambani friendship with the Clintons goes that far back. No wonder Hillary Clinton came for Isha Ambani's wedding.
