NYT Editorial Board article on nuclear exchange being most likely between India and Pakistan

Last updated on 9th Mar 2019

I agree with the NYT Editorial Board that there is a danger of nuclear war between India and Pakistan in future possible escalations. Note that the recent flare-up seems to have de-escalated significantly now, even though there still is tension on the Indo-Pak border.

The Editorial Board is biased towards the USA, which is natural. It makes no mention of Indian Air Force claim of having downed a Pakistani F-16 fighter plane in the dogfight between Indian and Pakistani air forces. It does mention, of course, the Indian Air Force plane being downed and its pilot being captured and then released by Pakistan.

Overall, I think the NYT Editorial Board article on this matter is a weighty one. I recommend it strongly for readers interested in this matter.

This Is Where a Nuclear Exchange Is Most Likely. (It’s Not North Korea.), https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/07/opinion/kashmir-india-pakistan-nuclear.html by the New York Times Editorial Board dated 7th March 2019.

The article concludes, "The two countries have crossed into dangerous territory, with India attacking Pakistan and engaging in aerial duels. The next confrontation, or the one after that, could be far more unthinkable."

I tend to agree with the above conclusion with the clarification that India attacked a terrorist camp in Pakistan. But Pakistan cannot get away with not stopping its territory being used as a base to launch terror attacks against India, presuming that because it has nuclear weapons, India will not act against the terror camps based in Pakistan. The world should pressurize Pakistan to stop its territory being used as a base to launch terror attacks in India.
