USA Judge Kavanaugh Supreme Court nominee's senate confirmation: Democratic senators raise fear of Roe v. Wade being overturned if Judge Kavanaugh gets elected to US Supreme Court

USA Judge Kavanaugh Supreme Court nominee's senate confirmation: Democratic senators raise fear of Roe v. Wade being overturned if Judge Kavanaugh gets elected to US Supreme Court as they fear he could be the crucial 5th vote in the 9 member US Supreme Court which may overturn it.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) asks Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh about it in the context of an email of Kavanaugh that was previously confidential but is now public: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krHk1WTiRc8, 6 min. 32 secs.

Citing the principle of judicial independence, Judge Kavanaugh dodges the direct question about whether he thinks Roe v. Wade is correctly settled law or correct law.

Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973),[1] is a landmark decision issued in 1973 by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of the constitutionality of laws that criminalized or restricted access to abortions. The Court ruled 7–2 that a right to privacy under the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman's decision to have an abortion, but that this right must be balanced against the state's interests in regulating abortions: protecting women's health and protecting the potentiality of human life.[2] Arguing that these state interests became stronger over the course of a pregnancy, the Court resolved this balancing test by tying state regulation of abortion to the third trimester of pregnancy.

This tussle between pro-life and pro-choice groups in the USA is super-sensitive. But I think it is quite clear to neutral observers including me that President Trump, Vice-President Pence and most, if not all, of the Republican Senators are pro-life and would want Roe v. Wade to be overturned by US Supreme Court.

I think that's why Democratic Party senators and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders are trying hard to block Kavanaugh or at least postpone the decision till after the mid-term elections at which time the possibility of Senate majority going to Democrats cannot be ruled out.

Quite a fascinating but also emotionally hard and draining (concerns about women hurting themselves through dangerous ways to end abortion if legal abortion ways are blocked), political battle to watch! The stakes are high for pro-choice folks in the USA, especially pro-choice women as Roe v. Wade being overturned by US Supreme Court would directly impact their rights to have an abortion.
