Horrendous murders by poisoning committed by woman (Jolly Joseph) in Kerala; Intriguing and very scary double-life led by Jolly Joseph

[Given below are contents of recent Facebook posts of mine.]

Horrendous! This seems to be out of an Agatha Christie murder novel but happened in Kerala between 2002 and 2016!

Using cyanide, Kerala woman murdered six members of family over 14 years, say police, https://indianexpress.com/article/india/kerala/using-cyanide-kerala-woman-murdered-six-members-of-family-over-14-years-say-police-6055693/.

"The woman, Jolly Joseph, who belongs to Koodathai village in Kozhikode district of North Kerala, has confessed to all six murders, Kozhikode Rural superintendent of police K G Simon told reporters."

As per the report, she got rid of family members of hers and of a person whom she wanted to marry, who were in her way. She poisoned her husband who died in 2011, and married another man in 2017 after poisoning the man's wife and child to their deaths. The man she married has not been arrested by the police and so may not have known about it.

The report states that she got cyanide from a goldsmith. The police have arrested him and another accomplice.

My God! This is so depressing to know.

The article, Murder without mayhem: Chilling facts behind the Koodathayi killings, https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/kozhikode/murder-without-mayhem-the-chilling-facts-behind-the-koodathayi-killings/article29660346.ece, 12th Oct. 2019 is a detailed report on the Jolly Joseph murders in Kerala.

Besides the horror of the six murders by poisoning committed over many years, which I have mentioned in an earlier post (that Facebook post's contents are given above), this article throws light on a double-life that Jolly Joseph led. I find this double-life aspect very intriguing and scary, and something that may be becoming somewhat uncommon in India now.

The article says that neighbours found Jolly to be always well behaved and helpful! "She used to participate actively in local prayer gatherings and festivals of the local parish and social meetings." My God! That really is a very unsettling thing for me to know. An active member of a church/parish/prayer group having a parallel life as a murderer (by poison) over a period of 14 years! I think I will need a lot of time to digest this.

She elaborately deceived people about being a faculty member of a national level educational institution - National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C). Jolly used to leave home on working days, pretending that she is going to NIT-C and return back later. People in the church/parish community thought she had gone to NIT-C to teach, and referred to her as 'teacher'. But it is alleged that she would go to some beauty parlour somewhere else instead of NIT-C, and stay there for some time.

She forged an NIT-C identity card as well as some education related certificates! When family friends visited the NIT-C campus, Jolly ensured her presence on that campus, according to this report!

My God! What a double-life! How wrong and how evil!

District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) K.G. Simon who leads the investigation is quoted by the article as saying, "She appears to be an accomplished performer. Perhaps that’s how she managed to pose as a faculty member at NIT-C for 14 years". Simon also said that Jolly Joseph has not shown any remorse.

C.J. John, a Kochi-based psychiatrist is quoted by the article as saying, "Pathological lying, lack of remorse about an act, superficial charm and an excellent ability to cover up the crime are indications of a personality disorder".

Well, personality disorder seems to me to be a rather innocent term. Jolly Joseph seems to me to be a personification of wrong-doing and evil. She would poison her victims, and then act as a care-giver taking them to hospital!

I am just too shocked to know that such evil happened in Kerala in our times committed by a person who outwardly appeared to be a good member of a church/parish.
