USA moderate Republican Senator Susan Collins on need for hearing before making fundamental changes to safety net Medicaid program
Straight-talking and moderate Republican senator Susan Collins from Maine, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Collins, on need for proper hearing before major changes are made to Medicaid which is a safety net for the poor that's been around for 50 years in the USA, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ_DnWLScu0, 8 min. 35 secs.
Collins says around 4:50 in the video, "But I do know this, we should not be making fundamental changes in a vital safety net program that's been on the books for 50 years - the Medicaid program - without having a single hearing to evaluate what the consequences are going to be. That doesn't mean that aren't problems with the Medicaid program that need to be addressed. It doesn't mean that the ACA [Ravi: Obamacare] doesn't have serious flaws. It does. But that's why we need to go through the normal committee process and get input from people on both sides of the aisle. That's what would produce the kind of legislation that we need."
Ravi: Wow! So great to hear such wise words from a veteran REPUBLICAN legislator of the USA Senate, especially in today's charged and divisive USA political environment.
BTW I have visited the state of Maine once in the 1980s. I recall it as a very beautiful seaside state.
Please note that I have a PUBLICLY NEUTRAL informal-student-observer role in these posts that I put up about USA politics. Of course, as I am an Indian citizen living in India, there is no question of me having voted in USA elections.
