Some articles on Indian response to Trump statement on USA exiting Paris Accord

1) The Hindu (mainstream national newspaper based in South India) editorial on it: We need Paris: on U.S pulling out of climate deal, http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/editorial/we-need-paris-on-us-pulling-out-of-climate-deal/article18709304.ece, 3rd June 2017

Ravi: I tend to agree with the editorial article. Some key points it makes are:
* US President Trump has ignored scientific evidence on carbon emissions, and "carried his contempt for environmental regulations to an extreme" by pulling out of the Paris Agreement on climate change which is "one of the most important issues facing humanity".

* USA is a major legacy polluter and therefore has additional responsibility to combat climate change. Obama recognized it but Trump has rejected it.

* India was unfairly targeted by Trump for building coal plants and seeking funds to combat climate change.

* India should better its pledge to cut emission by 35% by 2030 (based on 2005 levels), and expand its renewable energy work.

* The exit of the USA should not impact the goal of less than 2 degree Centigrade rise in global temperature.

* The "principle of common but differentiated responsibilities that underpins the UN climate framework, and casts a duty on industrial powers responsible for the world’s accumulated carbon emissions, needs to be strengthened."

2) This was the front-page article in The Hindu today (if I recall correctly) which reported on Trump pulling out of Paris Agreement: Trump pulls US out of Paris climate pact, hits out at China, India, http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/us-will-withdraw-from-paris-climate-deal-says-president-donald-trump/article18702249.ece

3) Modi vows to ‘go above and beyond’ Paris climate accord, http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/paris-climate-accord-narendra-modi-vows-to-go-above-and-beyond-to-protect-environment/article18713811.ece, 3rd June 2017

The above article quotes PM Modi in France now having meetings with French President Macron, as saying that India would "continue working... above and beyond the Paris accord". It also mentions that PM Modi avoiding criticizing USA President Trump for his decision to exit the Paris Agreement.

It states that President Macron said that he would be visiting India this year to attend an international summit on solar power.

The article also quotes Indian environment minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan as saying, "As far as the Paris accord is concerned... our government is committed irrespective of the stand of anyone, anywhere in the world".

4) Trump climate deal: Modi vows to go beyond Paris accord, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-40144613

This article additionally quotes Modi as saying, "The Paris agreement is the common heritage of the world. It is a gift that this generation can give".

[I thank thehindu.com and have presumed that they will not have any objections to me sharing the above very short extracts from their website, and notes from their articles on this post which is freely viewable by all, does not have any financial profit motive whatsoever, and is about a human welfare topic.]
