US border security: Latest example of opposing democratic country leaders going directly to the people of their country explaining their positions
One thing great about democracy is how opposing leaders have to ultimately address the people on their different views and strategies to solving problems of the country they lead. It surely will have its inefficiencies as compared to an authoritarian regime's way of solving such problems. But as the authoritarian regime does not provide a mechanism for opposition to freely and fairly voice its opposition to their approach, there is always the danger of the authoritarian regime becoming an oppressive and tyrannical regime. This is what history, including history of the 20th century, teaches us.
