It is a major achievement by the current Indian cricket team - beating Australia in Australia in a test series. Not done before!
Congratulations to the Indian cricket team for this major achievement!
One of the primary requirements of winning test matches is the ability to take 20 wickets of the opposing side in the time they bat during the 5 day match. The top wicket takers for India were the fast bowlers! Jasprit Bumrah topped with 21 wickets in the 4 match test series, Mohammed Shami got 16 and Ishant Sharma (all fast bowlers) got 11.That itself tells a major part of the story, as to beat Australia in Australia, fast bowling is key. In the past, Indian cricket teams seem to not have had such fast bowling attacks.
For sure, during the late 1970s and throughout 1980s which is when I followed Indian cricket quite a bit, India simply did not have a powerful fast bowling attack even though medium pacers like Kapil Dev could get significant number of wickets. India then relied primarily on spin bowling to win test matches. And that meant rather poor showing in Australia.
Great to see that that has changed now! I think current young generation of Indian cricketers (and current young generation of most middle class and rich Indians) have been fed well :-). The young generation of Indian cricketers have also done what is needed to build muscles to match the cricket competition internationally.
