Las Vegas sheriff says lessons learnt from 26/11 Mumbai attack helped prevent a thousand deaths, http://www.firstpost.com/world/las-vegas-sheriff-says-lessons-learnt-from-2611-mumbai-attack-helped-prevent-a-thousand-deaths-4127017.html, 10th Oct. 2017

A small extract from above article:

"I think they prevented a thousand deaths, and I think it's important for the American public to understand that," Lombardo said on Monday.

Lombardo had traveled to Mumbai after the November 2008 terrorist attacks on hotels and other sites by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militants that left 164 people dead, including some American nationals.

The sheriff said he had gleaned insight from the trip to Mumbai, and his department now reacts faster to such shootings, quickly forming a team to "cease the action'' of the assailant on their own.

Ravi: Hmm. Mumbai 2008 attacks exposed Mumbai police force's inadequacy then to take on automatic guns equipped and well trained group of terrorists (from Pakistan according to many reports). Mumbai lost a lot of people then, including some of its brave police officers and policemen who were not prepared for such a well equipped terrorist attack on the city. Some Americans too lost their lives in this dastardly attack on Mumbai then.

What is heartening to know is that not only did Indian police and security forces learn from the sad lessons of Mumbai 2008, but that the top police officer from a city in the USA, the sheriff of Las Vegas, also learned from it. That he made a visit to Mumbai to learn about it, is extraordinary! Kudos to USA police forces for enabling its top police officer(s) to visit Mumbai to learn about the terror attack and come up with schemes to effectively combat any such terror attacks in their cities in the USA!

I also salute the brave officers of the Las Vegas police department who seem to have played a vital role in the killer having to stop his killing and worry about these police officers who were onto him. The killer killed himself but if the police officers had not put pressure on him, perhaps he may have continued his killing for longer!

Hopefully, police forces across the world will learn from this quick and effective action taken by few well trained and well equipped Las Vegas police officers which prevented the death count from being much higher than what it was!
