Indian IIT engineer turns gunman-killer on UCLA, USA campus; Does IIT engineering curriculum teach human values?

From UCLA gunman planned to kill two professors, but could find only one, police say, http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-mainak-sarkar-ucla-20160602-snap-story.html, dated June 2nd 2016

The gunman who shot and killed a UCLA professor Wednesday has been identified as Mainak Sarkar ...
...
Before enrolling at UCLA, Sarkar earned a master’s degree at Stanford University following an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, according to his LinkedIn page. In the U.S., he also had a stint as a research assistant at the University of Texas and worked as a software developer.

Ravi: Oh Lord! The gunman seems to be an Indian IIT engineering graduate (who did higher studies in the USA). ..... Hmm. This is the first time I am coming across what seems to be an Indian origin guy in the USA turn into a gunman-killer on a USA university campus!!!

Very tragic!!!

...

From Slain UCLA professor William Klug, father of two, praised as 'great man' by students, http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-ucla-klug-20160602-snap-story.html, dated June 2nd 2016

Klug had been the target of Sarkar’s anger on social media for months, and the gunman called him a “very sick person” who could not be trusted.

The professor had worked with Sarkar to help him finish his dissertation and graduate, a UCLA source said.

“Bill was extremely gracious to this student, who was a subpar student,” the person said.

In his doctoral dissertation, submitted in 2013, Sarkar expressed gratitude to Klug for his help and support. Sarkar was listed in the 2014 doctoral commencement booklet with Klug as his advisor.

Klug, who lived in El Segundo, was married, with a 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter, according to UCLA. He was a devoted family man who often took his children surfing and to Dodgers games, colleagues said.

Ravi: I pray to Almighty God to shower His Grace on the soul of Prof. Bill Klug, and to shower His Grace on and give courage and strength to Prof. Klug's wife and two young children to cope with this very tragic and sudden loss.

I condemn the Indian IIT engineering graduate's (who did Masters in USA and also attempted/completed Ph.D. under Prof. Klug) murderous and inhuman act of killing his Ph.D. supervisor! Even if the allegation of Intellectual Property theft that the killer seems to have made against the Late Prof. Klug was true (which has been dismissed as a false allegation in media reports), the Indian IIT engineering graduate-turned-gunman-killer lost his sanity and humanity, in doing such an act to extract perceived revenge for the perceived harm done to him.

Do IITs in India teach human values as part of their engineering curriculum? If not, perhaps this could be a case study for a human values course in IIT engineering curriculum to help prevent recurrence of such monstrous actions by products of Indian IIT institutions, which are funded by Indian taxpayer money.

Based on input I have received, I guess this single incident being viewed as an indicator of a possible need for human values teaching in IIT engineering curriculum (if it is not already there), is a flawed argument. And my repeated usage of Indian IIT engineering graduate words seems to put off at least one person. So I am going to delete this post (and the related blog post).

No don't.... let the discussion go on...we are all still learning how to live.
Intellectual discourse must be encouraged ... never given up.

Hmm. Ok. Maybe then I will just leave it at this point, from my side.
