Wonderful humane move by USA in supporting waiver of IP protections for COVID-19 vaccines; Whether that will happen at WTO is yet to be seen

I did not expect US President Joe Biden and his administration to do this good deed to support some poor/developing countries (including India) which are going through great suffering - illness wise and also economy wise - due to current surge of COVID pandemic. Wonderful humane gesture that is much appreciated! Whether this will eventually lead to more quantities and cheaper COVID vaccines is yet to be seen. But President Joe Biden has led the way forward in this matter. Hats off to him!

https://twitter.com/AmbassadorTai/status/1390021205974003720/photo/1 has the statement of US Trade ambassador Katherine Tai. The accompanying tweet text by ambassador Tai: "These extraordinary times and circumstances of call for extraordinary measures.

The US supports the waiver of IP protections on COVID-19 vaccines to help end the pandemic and we’ll actively participate in @WTO  negotiations to make that happen."

I responded to her tweet: "This move from the USA is a wonderful humane one. Hopefully this will result in large quantities of cheap and effective COVID vaccines being available in poor/developing countries (including my country, India). Many Thanks."

WHO chief Dr. Tedros: "This is a monumental moment in the fight against #COVID19. The commitment by @POTUS Joe Biden & @USTradeRep @AmbassadorTai to support the waiver of IP protections on vaccines is a powerful example of 🇺🇸 leadership to address global health challenges." , https://twitter.com/DrTedros/status/1390037666213900290 .
