Good to see unanimous election of Shri K.R. Rameshkumar as speaker of Karnataka Assembly; Best wishes to him for upholding democratic discussions and processes in Assembly
Please note that I have a PUBLICLY NEUTRAL role in these social media posts that I put up related to Indian political leaders which include leaders in government currently and those not in government. I am an Indian citizen and resident of India. I do vote in Indian elections but I keep who I vote for as a private matter. I should also say that I am a beneficiary, a lover and an open supporter of democracy in India.
Saw this youtube video in Kannada, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r64FZ6t9Mw, 6 min. 5 secs, which captures today's (25th May 2018) unopposed election (as the BJP withdrew its candidate for speaker) of Shri K.R. Rameshkumar (of Congress) as speaker. His nomination seems to have been made by former Chief Minister (CM) Shri Siddaramaiah (Congress) and seconded by current Dy. Chief Minister, G Parameshwara (Congress).
The video shows Shri Rameshkumar being congratulated by current Chief Minister, Shri Kumaraswamy (Janata Dal (Secular)) and by former CM and current leader of opposition, Shri Yedyurappa (BJP).

It states that CM Shri Kumaraswamy said (in the assembly), "As leader of the House, I have the opportunity today. We are happy that you (KR Ramesh Kumar) were unanimously elected as speaker of the House. When Siddaramaiah proposed your name and filed the nomination yesterday, I should have been present too. Any doubts people had during this time, can now be set aside. The way you conduct the House to uphold the respect of the House, it is in the most fitting manner possible."
"When my father was CM, you were the Speaker. When his son, I, is the CM again, you are the Speaker. I am honoured. Our government will give all the necessary cooperation. All the young MLAs have a lot to learn from you. I strongly believe in your sense of responsibility, fairness in every task carried out by you. I believe we will see good days ahead".
...
"To all Opposition leaders, I want to express my gratitude to (that you) have ultimately decided to make it a unanimous election. It is quite rare to have a unanimous candidate like this,"
---
Leader of the opposition, Shri Yedyurappa said, "The Opposition will extend all their cooperation towards you. We withdrew our Speaker’s nomination out of respect and to maintain the prestige of the Speaker."
Ravi: That's a nice gesture from Shri Yedyurappa.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri G Parameshwara said: "I had said Speaker's post is an apolitical one. Let us felicitate you (KR Ramesh Kumar) with unanimity. I'm thankful to the BJP leaders and S Suresh Kumar for having agreed to the decision. We have seen you as a straightforward politician. You are a role-model and inspiration to all of us. Your earlier experience, we have seen you conduct the proceedings of the House with rules and regulations is a model for us, and for the entire country."
Former chief minister Shri Siddaramaiah said to Shri K.R. Rameshkumar: "As the legislature party head of the Congress and all the legislators, let me congratulate you. In a democratic set up, the role of a speaker is a very important one. If democracy has to succeed, legislative assmebly, council and parliament has to work effectively. I have over 40 years of experience, and have been a part of disussions in all these years. It's only when quality discussions are held in the house, that the democracy is upheld."

Ravi: For readers who do not know, Shri K.R. Rameshkumar is an ardent devotee of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and has been regularly visiting PrasanthiNilayam (Puttaparthi).
As a citizen of neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, and citizen of India, I wish Shri K.R. Rameshkumar all the very best in his current stint as speaker in the Karnataka assembly. I pray to Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba that Shri Rameshkumar ensures good quality democratic debate, discussion and process in the assembly of Karnataka. India's tech. capital, Bangalore, is the capital of Karnataka and so the eyes of the big tech. companies in USA and rest of the world will be watching how democracy is maintained and upheld in Karnataka.
