Chris Wallace of Fox News: Trump saying (USA) media is enemy of American people is wrong and dangerous
As a lover of democracy I felt it appropriate to share Fox News anchor Chris Wallace's view that USA President Trump saying that the USA media (like NYT, CNN, NBCNews, CBS, ABC but excluding Fox, I am quite sure) is the enemy of the American people, is crossing the line. Wallace says that if Trump had limited his attacks to saying that USA media is biased and unfair that would be fine with him. He points out that the USA founders allowed for free media not (necessarily) fair media as a check on power.
Wallace quotes Jefferson (Trump too had mentioned Jefferson but as being critical of the media) that given a choice between a govt. without newspapers and newspapers without a govt., he would choose the latter!
Wallace mentions that Trump may not be hitting Fox now, but Obama was hitting Fox. So he said that it is not important whether the USA president is singling out the orgn. a particular media person represents. It is wrong to say that the (USA) media is the enemy of the American people. Criticism of the media by the president is fine - the media criticizes the president and the president can criticize the media back. But saying that the media is the enemy of the people is dangerous.
