Some observations about Denmark today by a European:
    - free health care
    - free education
    - abortion allowed
    - homosexual marriage allowed
    - socially very liberal
    - hardly religious at all
    - very high taxes
    - excellent social safety net
    - high unemployment benefits
    - good pension system
    - most equal country on earth
    - supports alternative energy (currently 20+%, aims for 50% in a decade or two)
    - just about everybody knows that evolution is a fact
    - just about everybody knows that climate change is a fact
    - people are happy

On top of that
    - rich
    - high business climate index
    - high personal freedom index
    - least corrupt country on earth
    - running a net economic surplus
    - high rate of home ownership
    - a free press
    - a working democracy

According to some "theories" such a socialistic country (Denmark) should be a bankrupt dictator-run hell-hole. According to such theories Denmark couldn't possibly exist.

Short update from same person (but in another context) on 16th Feb. 2016:
It is worth remembering that the Danes stated on land reform in 1777, educational reform in 1815, political reform in 1849, and health and social services and pension reform in 1933. They have never stopped.

  1. But then what a country is like depends on the Social Structure of that country. Also, their social values, mores and norms which have been persisting to exist not from today but from past many generations. So, sociologically existence of a country like Denmark is very much possible. All of their indicators for Social and Human Development can't be applied to India.

    1. I tend to agree with your comment. What works for Denmark may not work for other countries, especially large and complex countries like India and the USA. However, Denmark's successes in better social and human development indices should be studied to see if some aspects of their policies in some modified way could be applied to other countries like India & the USA.
