Comparison of History Timeline bar charts of Delhi & Tamil Nadu rulers/major powers in period from 1000 AD - 2000 AD (2nd millennium AD)

Last updated on 10th Jan. 2023

This post follows-up on my previous posts: Tamil Nadu Ruler (>≈75% terr.) / Major Power (>≈50% terr.) from 1000 AD to 2000 AD (2nd millennium AD), https://ravisiyermisc.blogspot.com/2022/12/tamil-nadu-ruler-75-terr-major-power-50.html and Delhi city area rulers from 1000 AD to 2000 AD (2nd millennium AD),  https://ravisiyermisc.blogspot.com/2022/12/delhi-city-area-rulers-from-1000-ad-to.html

I first shared an interim version of the comparison of history timeline bar charts pic on Facebook here:  https://www.facebook.com/ravi.s.iyer.7/posts/pfbid0goYgEkdcJMd6Qrw8QaU5T91Qxw1xmp1774Hxv8Gcw78roB4ah1V8qPY7pb2nUZ7El . The pic below is the release version (no longer interim).

Improvements made on chart given in earlier post, are:

1) Common ruler/major power uses same colour shading in both charts. The only common powers are: Delhi Sultanate, Britain and India.

2) Colour shade used for ruler/major power in both charts are unique for each ruler/major power (kingdom/country).

3) The legend is more descriptive (with period) for Delhi chart (like in case of TN chart). The size of TN chart was expanded to show full legend text entries.

With these improvements it is easy for a viewer to note the following:

1) With exception of Britian & India periods, there is vast difference between 1000 to 2000 AD rulers/major powers for Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

2) Other than Britain and India periods, the only common ruler/major power in 1000-2000 AD for Delhi and Tamil Nadu is Delhi Sultanate. But the period of their rule in Delhi and Tamil Nadu is vastly different. Delhi Sultanate ruled Delhi for 320 years from 1206 to 1526 whereas Delhi Sultanate and the successor Madurai Sultanate (in TN) which sort-of split away from Delhi Sultanate, ruled or was a major power in Tamil Nadu for 55 years from 1323 to 1378.

3) Mughals were never a major power in Tamil Nadu [though they held small amount of territory in Tamil Nadu for some years but not enough territory for it to be viewed as a major power in that area].

4) Due to vast difference between Delhi and Tamil Nadu rulers/major powers in 1000 AD to 2000 AD period with exception of Britain and India rule periods, it is a major error if one views Delhi ruler in this period to be ruler of India (which is the major error in a chart titled, "5000 years of Indian History" which seems to be shared quite a bit on social media).

This comparison pic of two charts is a work-in-progress. I thought I should share it now itself. I first shared it on Facebook here:  https://www.facebook.com/ravi.s.iyer.7/posts/pfbid02tDgmH53ujbDuAH67kkeUf2ZfU5DDcnnittGeg1STrw6fTXWW3ejFkn47GmkE25tMl . Same pic is shared below. Any comments/constructive criticism are welcome.

I plan to change the colours of some of the bars (or rather segments) in the Tamil Nadu chart part of the pic. I think I will use same colours for dynasty/country that are common to both charts (Delhi Sultanate, Britain and India). I then may need to go further to not use same colour for different dynasties in Delhi and TN charts. Hmm. That's going to take some patience and time.
