Wow! I had not known of that. I am recalling the Niagara Falls that I saw in mid 1980s and comparing it with what the pic shows. What an awesome contrast! The power of nature is truly awesome.

I am pleasantly surprised to know about India being placed 3rd in number of unicorns worldwide, as of April 2021 as per https://www.statista.com/statistics/1096928/number-of-global-unicorns-by-country/ .

"A unicorn company is a privately owned startup that has a current valuation of one billion U.S. dollars or over. Once a company has gone public (IPO) or has been acquired it is no longer termed as a unicorn."

Top-ten list of countries with no. of unicorns as of April 2021

USA: 288

China: 133

India: 32

UK: 27

Germany: 15

South Korea: 11

Israel: 11

Brazil: 10

France: 8

Switzerland: 5

I think this is good news for India. IMHO, flourishing private enterprises are crucial for India's economic well being, in combination with social welfare schemes by government that uplift the poor, which are funded in significant part by direct & indirect taxes coming from flourishing private enterprises and their products & services.

Flourishing startups are a critical part of private enterprises, IMHO. Some of the top company giants of today worldwide like Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon were startups a few decades ago!

As a former Indian software industry techie (1984 to 2002), I find it just awesome to see how software has become a significant part of Indian industry today. "India will export software worth more than oil exported by Saudi Arabia in 2021"! Unbelievable man! Unbelievable! Note that most of my software industry career in India was in SEEPZ, Mumbai, where the big software export story of India started in the 1980s. So I am just blown away by the above quoted statement/claim.

10% of India's GDP by 2025! Wow!

Chernobyl disaster is unforgettable for me! After that, nuclear power was never a "100 %" safe technology for me, no matter which top scientist/technologist of India, or other parts of the world, says so. The images below of the nerve center of that nuclear power plant capture one aspect of that tragedy very well.

I will never forget 'Enter the Dragon' movie of Bruce Lee - it was just awesome. I think I saw it in the 1970s or perhaps the early 1980s in Mumbai - it was released in 1973 (in USA). I think I should watch it again on youtube sometime.

I don't recall which movie I saw of Chuck Norris but, in that film, he was a very impressive martial arts guy too. Note that Chuck Norris is still alive as per his wiki page.

It is after I did a lot of reading/viewing, in the past few years, on history of past centuries that I came to have a much better understanding of the great and very obvious class divides that were a reality of societies in most parts of the world including India for sure, if not the whole world, even one century ago.

Of course, there are class divides today too in most societies in the world but I think they are not so obvious and they are quite surely not as great as they were a century ago. Perhaps democracy and communism which are the dominant political systems in the world now, have to be credited for these improvements in societies.

The shared pic which seems to show the class divide in Britain around 85 years ago, is worth a thousand words.

1971 hit Hindi film song: Duniya mein rehna hai to kaam kar pyare - English: If you want to live in the world, you have to work, (my) dear

Duniya Me Rehana He - Kishore Kumar @ Haathi Mere Saathi - Rajesh Khanna, Tanuja, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7jnz5mbmDg , 5 min. 50 secs. The song proper starts around 47 seconds into the video.

This is a popular Hindi film song of the early 1970s from 1971 film 'Haathi Mere Saathi' (Elephants are my companions). The singer is Kishore Kumar and on-screen stars are Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja. The music directors are Laxmikant-Pyarelal and lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.

I recall having seen the film as a kid living in Dadar, Mumbai (I was around 9 years old when the film released) and having enjoyed it.

The song's main lines reflect tough realities of working class masses of India then (half a century ago), and I think they would apply to India's working class masses today too!

Hindi: Duniya mein rehna hai to kaam kar pyare

English: If you want to live in the world, you have to work, (my) dear

Hindi: Haath jod sabko salaam kar pyaare

English: Join your palms together (as a salutation) and salute everybody, (my) dear

Hindi: Varna yeh duniya jeene nahi deegi

English: Otherwise this world will not let (you) live

Hindi: Khane nahi deegi peene nahi deegi

English: will not let (you) eat, will not let (you) drink

The film's wiki page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haathi_Mere_Saathi_(1971_film), informs us that it was the biggest (Indian) box office hit of 1971. It was produced and directed by Tamil folks (Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar and M. A. Thirumugam respectively) and was based on Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar's 1967 Tamil movie Deiva Cheyal.

Hmm. I had no idea about the Tamil film background and Tamil director & producer background for this film till I read the wiki page today.

Good to see that such pics which depict the realities of the past, are being shared today. Knowing the harsh truths and realities of the past will help us better navigate through life in current times, IMHO. In the 1930s, while some people in USA were super-rich, there were large number of Americans who were very poor, with most of them being in rural USA.

With such pics, we see that the very poor of New York City then had to live in shacks in Central Park which today is viewed as a great landmark of NYC.

On my FB post https://www.facebook.com/ravi.s.iyer.7/posts/3268762606673627 which shares pic of Lincoln memorial inauguration in Washington DC, USA, I commented (slightly edited):
This photo has enhanced, made more valuable, my memory of my visit to the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C. in the 1980s.

Abraham Lincoln was one of the great humanistic leaders of the past few centuries, who not only led USA out of the horrific practice of slavery, even if it came at the cost of a terrible civil war, but through his speech(es) after victory, ("With malice towards none; with charity for all") showed the world how to heal a country after such a civil war. I studied some of Lincoln's speeches as part of my school curriculum in Mumbai (10th standard or earlier, in 1970s when I was less than 16 years old)! That just shows how much reverence humanistic people the world over have for Lincoln – Indian school kids were being taught about him as a great humanistic hero (and I think that would surely be the case today too). And I think a lot of this reverence comes from him taking such a stand against the horrific practice of slavery.

So one of the most precious memories of my stints in USA, is my visit to the Lincoln memorial in 1980s – I can still recall it easily. Therefore it was really great for me to see this photo of the son of Abraham Lincoln at the dedication event of this memorial in 1922.

Don't know if the pics exaggerate the difference but the US civil war was a horrible one. It surely would have taken a toll on President Lincoln, who ultimately lost his life to an assassin due to his leadership role in the US civil war. For those readers who don't know, the main issue in that civil war was slavery with Lincoln leading the side (Union) that outlawed slavery against the side (Confederacy) which wanted to retain slavery.
