JXD 951 Firmware Not Available for Download!!!

Came across a post on mp4Nation where a guy's JXD 951 player seems to have got nearly bricked and he was asking for some help (http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8353). Thought I could see if I could dig up the info as I may land in a similar predicament later!

As of now my JXD 951 1 GB model is working fine. I also have a copy of the files on the disc that came with the player. It has a folder called driver_5000 which has a single file 5000Driver_v2.0.exe. On reading the web pages listed below and also installing the 5000Driver_v2.0.exe, it seems that this contains the drivers that come into play when you have to install/upgrade the firmware from PC to the JXD 951 player. [The driver does not seem to be required for just copying media files between PC and player. BTW the driver installation 'silently' installs files to C:\Windows\SPCA5000].

But the 5000Driver_v2.0.exe does not have the firmware itself. That has to be procured separately.

I browsed the net a bit but could not locate the firmware. Here are some web pages which give some info but unfortunately the links they give for the firmware are broken.

Firmware upgrade = brick
Talks of unsuccessful effort to upgrade Firmware. But has some (not full) details about upgrade procedure.
Unfortunately the links to jxd site where firmware has been reported to be downloaded in the past are now broken. I looked at the JXD site (English version) now and the download link for JXD 951 gives zilch!!
[http://www.jxd.cc/en/Index.html - JXD English site home page
http://www.jxd.cc/en/product_view.asp?id=262 - JXD 951 page
http://www.jxd.cc/en/Download.asp - General Download page !! But downloads a rar file (102 KB) which has only a Winter.jpg (104 KB) image file.]

I tried the Internet Archive but it does not know of JXD 951 at all!!!

One answer here gives details of firmware upgrade procedure but the author says that he got an upside down display at the end. I have copied the answer below:

If it's anything like the JXD 951, you need to install the FRM program and the driver setup program that should be included in the zip, then on your JXD 661 go into tools - upgrade - usb, when it says connecting to PC then connect your player to the PC with the USB cable, you should see Windows going crazy installing drivers, once it's done open the FRM program, click on advanced, then right click on RSV, go to set working folder and choose the directory containing aimg and bimg and the .bin file, then right click firmware, go to set file, and click the .bin file it shows in the pop up window, then ok. Then in the main FRM program window click on basic, make sure Program All is selected, and untick Read Verify, tick Auto Power Off, then ISP. After a while, it should say firmware programmed successfully and hopefully there you go!

However, I can't recommend upgrading JXD players, as many people brick their players, and in my personal case the firmware was successfully upgraded but now the screen is upside down, which is no use for TV out.

If somebody else knows (and I mean knows :-)) the procedure to dump the firmware from a working JXD 951 model onto a PC, then I am willing to try it out. Then we will have both the firmware and the drivers and some instructions (above) about the procedure, and so could take a shot at reinstalling/upgrading JXD 951 firmware.

I am quite dismayed by JXD taking off the JXD 951 firmware download links. Yes I knew it was a low-cost company but even then why do you remove a firmware download from your site?? I have learnt my lesson. Never again will I buy computer gadgets from companies whose web site looks disorganized and does not have proper software/firmware download links.

I find JXD 951 to be pretty good hardware for its price and it really is a pity that weakness on the software/firmware front is making it a somewhat unreliable product/company. Maybe if they open source their firmware, the open source community may fix their glaring issues. Being a software guy myself, I would love to have a go at it.
